Airborne LiDAR-Derived Digital Elevation Model for Archaeology

چکیده

The use of topographic airborne LiDAR data has become an essential part archaeological prospection, and the need for archaeology-specific processing workflow is well known. It therefore surprising that little attention been paid to key element processing: DEM. Accordingly, aim this paper describe DEM in detail, provide a tool its automatic precision assessment, determine appropriate grid resolution. We define as subtype DEM, which interpolated from ground points, buildings, four morphological types features. introduce confidence map (QGIS plug-in) assigns level each cell. This primarily used attach feature, useful detecting bias interpretation. Confidence mapping also effective identifying optimal resolution specific datasets. Beyond applications, provides clear criteria segmentation, one unsolved problems interpolation. All these are important steps towards general methodological maturity archaeology, our ultimate goal.

Accuracy Assessment of Lidar-derived Digital Elevation Models

Despite the relatively high cost of airborne lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs), such products are usually presented without a satisfactory associated estimate of accuracy. For the most part, DEM accuracy estimates are typically provided by comparing lidar heights against a finite sample of check point coordinates from an independent source of higher accuracy, supposing a normal dist...

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generation using airborne SAR interferometry (InSAR)

Information about the shape of the Earth’s surface is important in many applications as it helps users to visualize and analyze geographic problems accurately in 3D. This paper focuses on the InSAR technique of generating Digital Elevation Models (DEM) by using InSAR data acquired from an airborne platform. The data cover a study area of 4 km x 3 km located in Thetford Forest, East Anglia, Unit...

Openness as Visualization Technique for Interpretative Mapping of Airborne Lidar Derived Digital Terrain Models

Openness is proposed as a visualization technique for the archaeological interpretation of digital terrain models derived from airborne laser scanning. In contrast to various shading techniques, openness is not subject to directional bias and relief features highlighted by openness do not contain any horizontal displacement. Additionally, it offers a clear distinction between relief features an...

Accuracy of Airborne Lidar-Derived Elevation: Empirical Assessment and Error Budget

As part of a countywide large-scale mapping effort for Richland County, South Carolina, an accuracy assessment of a recently acquired lidar-derived data set was conducted. Airborne lidar (2-m nominal posting) was collected at a flying height of 1207 meters above ground level (AGL) using an Optech ALTM (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper) 1210 system. Unique to this study are the reference point elev...
